Translation work *is* art, and it's truly incredible what you do and you touch so many more lives than you realize- and often, those who's lives you touch with your translation work never realize just how much thanks they owe you, but from the bottom of my heart I want you all to know how grateful I am for all people in fandom and outside of it who translate things, those who do it professionally, those who do it for fun, what you do cannot be replaced by a machine, yes maybe it can give a literal translation but it cant really offer any of the human experience or creative choices that actual translators put into things! TO ALL MY BELOVED ANIME AND MANGA LOVING FANS ESPECIALLY i want to remind you to show some love to translators who make it possible for us to enjoy our favorite shows, as well as a special thanks to those who make fan translations of anime openings or things that never recieved an english translation! Pokemon fans you guys should get this especially, remember those guide books that answered so many questions we've had in the west that only got translated thanks to fan efforts and translators who were paid to translate some of the earliest guide books? Naruto fans! If you dont know, but you might, theres also a naruto radio show that theres translations for online that we ONLY have acess to because of fans efforts!

Don't get me started on all the people who make translations and EVEN SING THEM! remember how amazing some of those anime song translations and make them *actually singable?* Don't forget that doing that is a very creative act too! and people who translate fan comics!!!! or fanfictions!!!! please! appreciate them! It takes so much skill to translate the experiences of one culture into another, to make it understandable and meaningful across cultural and language barriers and to make it sound good on top of it all.

Tonight I cried reading an old translation of harmonia, one of my favorite naruto endings, it's 15 years old now, and i used to listen to it and sing it (with the help of that translation) with one of my little sisters, and its one of the only happy memories I have from that time in my childhood.

and so many other magnificent translators filled my childhood with wonder and joy, giving me the meanings of songs that changed my view of the world and helped me cope with hardship, and grow into a person i'm very proud of being.

Thank you, you'll never know just how many lives and hearts you touch. You are loved, you are appreciated, and anyone who thinks your art form can be replaced by a machine doesn't understand language well enough or culture well enough to know just how difficult it really is to capture the essence of someone elses art and I think in many ways, translation is a field where that which we call the soul of an art piece is most tangible, and can be most clearly seen, as it takes human experience and conscious choices based on an actual understanding of the real world and life itself to express that which is human in art. thank you, so so much for all you do.

Although I don’t personally headcanon Tim as trans (though i definitely enjoy trans tim content 👌😋), he certainly has his fair share of scars 

They’re mostly on his arms and hands

Some are from fights, others are from miscellaneous accidents, some have been there as long as he can remember and he’s not even sure where they came from

But theres one thing he knows for sure:

He HATES when people point them out 

He can’t really explain it, he just hates having attention drawn to them 

You may not feel the same way, but even if you say you don’t mind he’ll be careful not to point them out 

That’s not to say you won’t catch him staring when he thinks you’re not looking, though 

The scars just look so…natural, on you 

Like they’ve always been there 

He forgets that they’re scars, really 

He’s not sure why he feels so different about scars on you than he does on him 

The longer he’s with you the less he notices your scars anymore 

And the less he notices his own too 

Over time he becomes less insecure about them as he watches you not only live with but accept and maybe even embrace your scars 

And there’s something he loves about being able to run his hand down your bare chest, the marks on his hand matching with your scars 

Especially when he finds you in bed with him, climbing on top of him and straddling his lap 

He cant stop himself from reaching out and pulling your shirt off, his large hands splaying out over your torso as he admires you, feeling your heartbeat thump behind your ribs 

If your position allows him to see your chest, don’t be surprised if he can’t pull his eyes away 

He’s not very talkative during sex, but he’s always sure to remind you how handsome you are 

He knows sex can sometimes trigger dysphoria, and he doesn’t want you to forget that you’re his sweet boy, forever and always

Although he’s got a few of his own, they’re generally not very noticeable 

And even if someone did point them out, he’d simply laugh them off

They’re a reminder of how strong you are, he says 

It’s not easy embracing your true trans self in this world, and you should wear your scars with pride 

He’s got an artistic streak, so don’t be surprised if he asks to draw on them 

He may even suggest getting a cool tattoo to emphasize them! 

Like barbed wire or a flower chain or something 

But if you don’t want that, he’s perfectly content simply being allowed to run his fingers over your scars 

He’ll often absentmindedly begin tracing them whenever you’re laying together, sometimes not even realizing he’s doing it 

He loves to kiss your chest too 

He’s a romantic type, what can I say 🤷 

He just loves to give your scars all the gentle attention they deserve, he can’t help it

With The Crane Wives my favorite changes from time to time. I remember when I was ill and basically bedridden for two months, I'd spend hours just listening to all of their songs. Rn my favorite is I Aint Done. Apparently it's supposed to be based on some urban legend? I like to think of it as some tragic sapphic story

Marianas Trench is another one of my favorite bands. If you were a teen like me who loved watching AMV's in the 2000's to 2010's, their songs are often used for ships lol. (i get the feeling you might be a bit on the young side tho, so sorry for talking about some oldies here) Hard to pick a favorite too, but maybe this one since it's the first one of theirs I heard

I havent ventured too deeply in rap heavy songs, but this is one I like a LOT. The pre-chorus and chorus are such killers too and a lot of fun to sing lol

Jordan Fisher is such an underrated gem. Their songs take me back to the classic RnB from the 2000's. And watching them perform is kinda captivating.

People who have followed me for a while now know that I also love kpop/Loona, so lemme plug in my girls real quick. This is my favorite from one of their subgroups

Kiss of Life is a newer group I've been getting into lately, and they're real dang talented. They kinda remind me of Little Mix, which I also really liked

If you're into anime, you've probably heard of yoasobi because they've had songs that feature in anime. It's really really hard to pick a favorite with them but the one they wrote for Beastars is the one I'm currently obsessed with

There are also a lot of good songs in my country I could talk days about, especially this one by Ben & Ben. The mv stars their bassist and keyboardist who are dating irl, which makes it even cuter

And then there are so many broadway songs i like.... oh my god so hard to choose........

Beetlejuice is my favorite musical, so I gotta choose one from it. The lyrics for the songs in this musical are so good, but especially with Dead Mom. The bridge where Lydia turns all soft because of how much she loved her mom gets me everytime. (fun fact for those who dont know, the voice actors for Pentious/Adam and Rosie were the OG actors for the title character and the step mom)

Lastly, I havent actually watched the Waitress yet(I'm talkin about bootlegs ofc) but the soundtrack's really good. The voice actor for Niffty was also there, so you might wanna check it out just to hear her sing, she's phenomenal. This song is undoubtedly the best of the bunch, and there's actually a version song by Lucifer's VA that is absolutely heart-breaking, but I'm putting the original version in the post for the intended message of the song because its important. Also this animatic is kinda insane. Jeremy Jordan's version of this song really is worth checking out too for sure

Astarion snaps his fingers and a servant appears. He quickly rattles off instructions. A cup of her favorite tea, laced with some animal blood, warmed just the way she wanted it. Her favorite tailor is summoned.

He follows her to their old room, and deep inside he is giddy, an emotion he hasn’t felt in a long time.

She sits on her old desk, running her hands over the filigree. She has missed her comforts here. Her table where she worked. Their bed - the mattress a perfect softness and the sheets always immaculate until they methodically ruin it every night. She turns to Astarion, and seeing his grin, can’t help but smile back.

For a moment, all is well.

Whither is thy beloved gone?

Chapter 6

Astarion stands behind the artist they’ve commissioned, fingers idly scratching his chin as he watches the painting taking shape on the canvas. A good likeness, he thinks - it doesn’t exactly capture Ban, and he doubts any painting ever really can - but it is a decent attempt.

She smiles, and his own lips quirk up in response. She’s always looked better smiling, as rare a thing as it is nowadays, although they’ve been making some headway on that front.

I mean, she does smile, Astarion muses. Just not at -

The thought dies when he meets her eyes and sees hers locked onto his; hers are crinkled with amusement, and he feels his chest swell.

“Missed a button,” Ban says, nodding at him.

It takes a moment to register her words. His mind is back to when she had first smiled at him again - a genuine, honest-to-goodness smile, and not one of those manufactured ones she’s aimed at him since his ascension.

How she had sat at her desk, running her hands all over it. How she had looked around their room as if seeing it for the first time, and how she had turned to him and returned his grin with one of her own.

He’ll always remember that, he thinks. He’ll always have that to remind him that there is hope.

“Astarion.”

Her voice snaps him out of it, and he shifts awkwardly, hands moving to clasp behind his back as he straightens up.

“Yes, my love?”

“Your button. I’m not going to dinner in the upper city with your shirt askew like that,” she mutters.

“Or, you know, I could just unbutton everything and not go out at all,” Astarion counters. The laugh that rings out from her lips makes his heart flutter.

Ban shakes her head at him. “Maybe. Depends how nice you’ll be the rest of the day.”

“Darling,” he drawls. “I’ll be positively angelic.”

The painter clears his throat, annoyed that his subject is moving around too much. Astarion immediately shifts his attention towards him, eyes instantly glaring. Try doing that again.

Just as quickly he turns back to Ban, the hardness melting away as if it was never there at all. She’s back to holding the pose for the painter, and Astarion satisfies himself with observing the work.

There is still a long way to go, a distance he isn’t even sure he can traverse, but at least there is that.

these head-canons are not farfetched, they aren't as farfetched as one in particular they mentioned later on which I will touch on. also this seems like a super bad faith take???

the next take quite literally justifies the trans cross headcanon but alr. just because it isnt directly gender related doesnt mean people cant draw from it and add that in, since we never see all of cross' formative years so we'll never know if he is actually trans... what if in his first timeline he was made as a girl hm? that seems pretty trans to me.

I... only trans people have deadnames right??? im not crazy right??? I vividly remember discussions like this on tiktok about cis people changing their names and them asking if that is now their dead name and trans people responded saying it wasn't a dead name because it wasnt dead to them or stuff like that (it was a couple years ago i dont remember it exactly) but specifically, the term deadname is for trans people I THINK!

Time to get onto this persons own diagnosis on cross, SOMEONE TELL ME WHERE IT IS CANON THAT CROSS HAS DID??? I have never once seen that it is canon that he has DID, which makes this a headcanon if this person, and if you ask me DID headcanons can be FAR more harmful within their community than trans ones. DID is already so terribly stigmatised, and when you describe cross theyway they do with extreme agression, "going crazy about the past", no control over emotions expecially anger, and willing to do anything to get what he wants, these are all pretty HARMFUL STEREOTYPES buddy pal chum friendo. Cross being trans seems much less harmful and damaging of the integrity of the character/their story than this persons own personal diagnosis.

Jakei did that because Jakei is based af and cares about their community. I am no prophet, but i have the feeling that Vivzie's downfall will happen because someone who was close to her (maybe Ashley) will tell us, with proof and everything, that she did something so jaw-droping and horrible that even people in the critical community didnt know about, and even her most faithful fans will simply stop wanting to support her on the spot.

I have seen a LOT of cases where beloved internet micro-celebrities do bad things for years (like saying bigoted things, using their fans to attack other, etc) and they are still liked and supported cuz people quickly forget those things happen or consume their product cuz they "separate the art from the artist", but when some ex-friend or family member confesses that they did something terrible, thats when people stop tolerating their behaviour and just reconise they were never a good person, and their carer ends right there.

I think something similar might happen to Vivz.

I hope she never hurted someone in an irreparable and life-ruining way, but i cant help but think that her behavior online is the one of someone who is bad in the internet, and way worse in real life; the way she throws tantrums when not everyone praises her and her art, the way she is clearly obsessed with the idea of everyone loving her, the fact that she never speaks up when her fans are being horrible human beings at those who dislike her and she inderecly encourages that... is very scary.

The Evilest thing i can imagine her doing is having masive beef with some poor soul for a stupid reason, stalking them and trying to ruin their life, maybe by trying to blacklist them in the industry (remember the "i can ruin her") but i dont know her personally, she could be way worse than that and i wouldnt have a way to know.

We already know she is manipulative and obsesive, but what more? That woman is a total mystery.

I really hope that doesnt happen, that the things that gets revealed are just confirmations of what we already know about her (like the work abuse, transphobia, not paying her workers etc) so everyone will know and fans cant say that is "made up" anymore, but God, her story reminds me SO much of internet celebrities who turned up to be stalkers, abusers or even criminals!

She reminds me of Squizy, who got away with saying the N-word, drawing porn of minors and other bad things for years, but her fame ended when her ex-boyfriend spoke out about how she abused him.

Maybe its just me being a traumatized weirdo who grew up watching her favourite internet personalities turned up to be disgusting human beings, but i gotta say im scared of Vivziepop ngl.

I have a weird hunch that that's what it might turn out to be too, something completely out of left field. We know that this woman made a pilot and left an absurdly massive trail snail of angry, embittered people in her wake. I can't even imagine how many she's managed to piss off since then, what she's saying and doing behind the scenes that we still don't know about.

One thing's for sure -- it's very, very hard to keep scandalous secrets in 2023. You can get away with it for a while, but not forever.

HFFF day 2: retro

It was the night of the 37th annual hatchetfield honey festival and missy holly was getting ready to go onstage. She had been preparing for this for months and she was thrilled.  The honey festival is the biggest thing in hatchetfield if not the entire state screw clivesdales dumb cherry festival who would wanna go to that anyway. This was missy's year she was finally gonna get her music out to the world beyond hatchetfield. Ok yes this is a hatchetfield event but it's THE hatchetfield event and there's gotta be someone here that's gonna hire her. 1982 has been her year! She finally sold some of her shirts most of them to her friends but one person bought it at her set at that new place the slaughtered pig. Shes also written a full albums worth of songs that she played for her friends and they loved it.

“Missy holly your on in 5.”

“Awesome ill be right there!” YES finally here we go missy you can do this you can do this. Missy walks to the backstage area and waits five minutes until she hears her introduction.

“Now welcome to the stage local teenage artist missy holly.”

Missy walks onstage and waves to the crowd. She sees her parents and friends near the front cheering her on. She plays her 20 minute set and everyone seems to love it especially her song ‘run away with me’. She gets lots of applause as she walks off happy and excited for her future. As missy walks away from the event area to see her family and friends a girl runs up to her. She has white hair, pale skin, dark eyes, looks around her age, and hey is that one of her shirts.

“Hi! Im like your biggest fan! Could you sign my shirt?” wait i have fans? Thats crazy!

“Yeah totally! Do you have like a marker or something?”

“Yes here!” the girl hands her a black sharpie and missy signs her name.

“Thanks for coming to the show.”

“It was awesome! I cant wait to see you perform again. I love your song run away with me its so sweet!”

“Thanks ill see you at my next gig.'' At this the girl winks at her and runs off leaving missy smiling at the thought of her biggest fan.

It was the night of the 75th annual hatchetfield honey festival and miss holloway was cleaning up her diner. She didn't really want to go to the festival even though duke invited her. It reminded her of the last time she was truly happy. She made the deal a few rough years later and now shes here lonely even though she has duke, desperate even though she has the diner, and forgotten even though people had loved her. All she has now is this diner and duke but hes bound to forget her again soon. She doesnt even have her own name anymore not that anyone would care if she took it back next time but she doesnt really deserve it does she. She isnt that girl anymore. That girl deserved better than this she deserved the music career she wanted, the person she loved, the family that loved her, and the friends that cared for her. 

While miss holloway is cleaning she hears the bell above the door ring and turns to see a girl about her age. She reminds her of the girl from her last concert. She walks around the counter to grab a menu and seat the guest.

“Welcome to miss retros! Take a seat wherever you'd like.”

The stranger stays silent as they sit and as miss holloway gets them a water. She walks back behind the counter to give the guest a few minutes. As she waits she thinks back to that concert and that girl. She wonders where she is now. Does she have a family? Is she still in hatchetfield? If so could miss holloway find her? But miss holloway is cut from her thoughts when she hears a very familiar song quietly fill her ears. But how? shes the only person that remembers this song. Miss holloway walks up to the girl confused.

“What song is that?”

“You know it dont you miss holloway. has it really been that long?”

“How do you know that song?”

“Oh come on you remember me dont you miss holloway. Or do you want me to call you missy holly.”

“Your not supposed to remember that song… or that name. So tell me how do you remember them?”

“Sit?” the stranger gestures to the other side of the booth motioning for Miss Holloway to sit down. For some reason despite how many different emotions she was feeling, Miss Holloway felt she could trust her and sat down.

“So you gonna explain yourself?”

“Be patient missy im getting there. Anyway i know you know the lords so im gonna skip that question-”

“Wait the lords? Do you mean the lords in black?”

“Duh who did you think i was talking about the lords of the rings.”

“That reference was completely incorrect.”

“Whatever. Anyway, so im there sister.”

“Sister…”

“Yup i'm webby nice to remeet ya!” webby takes miss holloways hand and just holds it. Miss Holloway sits there not necessarily confused cause she's seen a lot of stuff in her many lifes but a bit bewildered.

“So why are you here? And why were you at my concert?”

“Well I was checking to make sure nibbly wasn't causing too much trouble when I heard your music and decided hey that sounds cool so I checked you out and realized something so I thought i'd make myself known in an inconspicuous way.” 

“Ok… why are you here now then?”

“Well uh ive actually been keeping an eye on you but ive been busy so i havent seen you in a while but when i saw how lonely you were i thought id come say hi. Because well you know im the only person who really remembers you so i thought you might want a friend.”

“I have friends.”

“None that truly know you though.” This made Miss Holloway a little sad. Because webby was right none of the people she cared about knew her. The real her. They knew one of her personas. Yes thats still her but none of them know her name, her story, her pain. But now shes sitting with someone who remembers her. Remembers her songs, her life, her name. So she gives it a shot.

“Well webby, feel free to drop by the diner whenever.”

“I will missy i will”

And with that webby is gone and miss holloway is alone again. But now she knows she won't be alone forever. So she waits for the next time. She works and cleans and hopes webby will come back cause shes getting lonely again. But about a week and a half later the white haired goddess returns and takes a seat at a booth and waits for miss holloway. Miss holloway grabs a plate of french fries and walks over to the booth.

“I was starting to think you werent gonna come back webby.”

“Sorry ive been pretty busy.”

“Its fine. French fry?” miss holloway slides the plate over to webby who grabs one hesitantly. As soon as she eats it her face lights up.

“Thats delicious! Can i have more?” miss holloway laughs and smiles properly fro the first time in a long time.

“Go ahead.” webby eats a few more fries before talking again.

“So what you been up to missy?”

“The diner keeps me busy so thats really it. Lifes pretty boring and lonely.”

“Can i ask you something missy?” miss holloway nods for her to continue.

“Can we go on a date?” miss holloway chokes.

“A date?”

“Yeah I heard it's a fun thing humans do and you look like you need to have some fun.”

“Webby a date is something people in a relationship do.”

“Ok so?”

“Well were not you know in a relationship.”

“So were not friends?” webby seems sad at this.

“No we are its just dates are for people in like a romantic relationship and were not.”

“What if we were though?” webby asks quietly looking down at the table. Miss holloway freezes she never thought this ethereal goddess would even know about dating but here she is being asked on a date by the queen of the white. How it would work miss holloway didn't know. what she did know is that she has felt so alone for so long and that having someone who actually knew her could make her feel a little less sad and a little more alive. Besides how could she say no to a literal queen.

“I think we could do it if we tried.”

“So is that a yes missy holly?”

“It is indeed webby.” webby smiles a plants a kiss on miss holloways cheeks. Miss holloway welcomes the affection her cheeks flush red and she turns to webby. They look into each others eyes both feeling more alive than they have in ages.

I have a theory

Loft reminds Slate of a family member. More specifically his sister.

Thats why they are so cold to him.

So, it's not just me right? There's a resemblance here. The way the hair falls and the colour.

ESPECIALLY WITH THE HEADBAND THAT LOFT HASNT WORN UNTIL NOW.

If Loft got given that headband by someone here as he was helping and now that Slate has seen him wearing it and also not he's had this memory it would explain why he looks to the side like that.

He's looking in the direction that Loft left the screen, perhaps looking for him...

The response from Slate might be a trauma response without them realising it. He's acting cold to Loft because he reminds him of a member of his family that he can't put a face too.

I need to vent.

Don't feel obligated to post this but: I find it so very funny that TKelc breeder comments (context: on their podcast he and his brother have their mum as guest, they ask her who her favourite is and she picks his brother because he gave her grandchildren. it is all jokes. and during those jokes tk says he needs to find himself a breeder).

What gets me is that this is being heavily explained away/defended by people who will say oh it was a joke, you need to hear it in context. Which - I agree, it was a joke and we shouldn't crucify him over it. But it was still sexist. Deeply rooted in sexism and to me no better than when a man jokingly refers to women as females.

So - his sexism (whether purpiseful or not, conscious or not) gets a pass as a joke. And yet, every single word that has come out of Matty Healy's mouth in the past decade was subject to such scrutiny. Such vitriol. And there was no context allowed. Sentences were being ripped from whole interviews, words have been twisted... let alone trying to justify some things as a joke. That one was met w pushback.

Not to mention the whole situation surrounding TK's teammate's brother (?) and the SA allegations. Or TKs participation on a dating show where multiple women try to date him I guess. Again deeply rooted in sexism. That one gets a free pass because he "needed the money" back then (2016ish?). But Matty's statements about Taylor were dragged around as prime example of his sexism (false statements), with no context, and no understanding of the fact that time has passed.

Like, I am so sorry but I am never ever getting over the treatment Matty got. And it has permanently distanced me from the fandom as such. Not all people are like this but most of them are duplicitous and sheep with no critical thinking skills. And I cant shit on the situation because some nice people I am mutuals with like TK and are excited about all the new things while I'm sitting here having war flashbacks to late spring 2023 and thinking how if this were Matty now they would still be ripping him apart.

in pointy objects chihiro is the goddess of knowledge, and touko is the goddess of literature. however this distinction changes nothing about the premise of touko being forced to just Have and Live With the knowledge of any existing LO parallel within the pointy objects universe. i think some funny highlights of this (before syo goddess of wrath tracks the author down and puts them down for being too cringe) would include:

- relationships among the gods are presented as MUCH more heterosexual than reality. and it’s freak shit too. ooc izuru/junko dynamic throws hajime in there as some toxic hatefuck polycule when the two of them would both rather die. kazuichi and sonia’s “coparenting kiibo” drama gets turned into sexual tension when sonia blocked his number well before she ever kidnapped adopted kiibo. despite having comparable strength and potential for destruction as the rest of the big five, makoto gets woobified BAD.

- when gay couples Are represented they’re all bad lmfao. byakuya & mondo respectively abusing poor sweet innocent easily-manipulated makoto and taka (<- as if everyone doesn’t know it’s makoto and taka that are dogwalking byakuya + mondo 99% of the time). junmikan and sayakan depictions are fanservice bait and gross while other Observably Non-Abusive lesbian relationships are downsized to the background.

- fuck it. po!universe lore olympus equivalent is secretly ghostwritten by junko feeding delusions to an opportunist web artist. acting out all of her fantasies and doing things she knows will piss the others off. the rest of the big five are presented as her doting harem and her rivalry with makoto VASTLY overestimates the reciprocation of junko’s fixation and sexual tension. probably chooses someone she knows will do a dogshit job on purpose tbh that’s funny as fuck

- angie draws fanart once and hajime considers putting his head through a wall while nagito shakily compliments her artistic talents through gritted teeth. supportive dads at all costs (even if hajime has to ritualistically burn miu and kokichi’s [ironically] and kiibo’s [unironically] smuggled in copies)

i was about to open a new canvas to draw some more shizaya stuff for my animatic that im never gonna finish and i was like huh. maybe i should draw onk fanart. and then i remembered this art of venti genshin impact with ai’s eyes and i remembered thinking man i hope this becomes an artist trend for people to do with their art blorbos! and then i was like OH. guess i could contribute to the trend by drawing izaya with ai’s eyes

and then i started thinking and i was like huh. Ai’s never experienced love from her parents, doesn’t think she knows how to love or how to express it, doesn’t get attached to others easily, is a perpetual liar, became an idol because she hoped she would learn how to love - oh hey doesnt. that. sound like izaya. just a little bit. not exactly, her character goes into more learning how to love/that she can love while izaya’s character is i can love but only impersonally because i’m afraid of getting hurt and his arc would be learning to let his walls down for his own good

SO for izaya idol au, izaya would become an idol because he wants to experience love, or something along the lines of “there’s no greater demonstration of parasocial love and foolish decision making than in the idol industry! ahaha~” and probably “idols are perfect liars and i need to put myself into their shoes so i can become an even better liar and close myself off to any possibility of falling in love that could ever exist”

there’s a lot of reasons he might want to become an idol, really. there’s so much corruption and behind-the-scenes dealing and lies and facades and shit in the entertainment industry that i think izaya would eat for breakfast. he would LOVE witnessing that shit and making his own shady deals and stuff and occasionally ruining lives and watching people rise and fall down the rankings and tear each other down. plus the people who are in it for passion rather than money are fascinating as well. psychology student’s dream really- i mean what this is definitely about izaya and not me projecting

plus he definitely has the looks for it (narita would hard agree given how many times he’s indirectly called izaya attractive through other characters. we love a canonically hot king)

now i need to make everything shizaya because i’m not okay but i have no idea who shizuo would be lmao

it kind of sucks when quotes are stolen and the author becomes dead to the world. a very famous and never-credited quote from a very private, now-deleted personal blog that only exists on internet archive, written by non-celebrity woman Jamie Anderson: "grief is love with nowhere to go." this quote reminds me of one with similar mysterious origins, "grief is love perserving." episode 8 of wandavision, a popular marvel show where that quote is supposedly from, aired in 2021, yet is predated by a tiny internet comic allegedly made in 2019 that verbatim says that same thing. made by a very small, surrealist french artist Emil Friis Ernst, it's hard to toe the line between innocent coincidence and not even knowing of Emil's existence or his work to even steal from, and plagiarism that just has a strong argument for reasonable deniability. not to mention, i swear that quote made rounds before 2021. i remember seeing them in what's basically now lost media tumblr posts before wandavision even existed. Jamie Anderson's identity is a mysterious one, and her lack of social media makes it impossible to communicate with her and know the possible origins of her quote or her desire with how it's handled. her quote is only credited some of the time, sometimes it says -Unknown. maybe she refuses having a platform because she's shy? maybe she dislikes social media on a moral level? maybe she, too, doesnt know the origins of the quote, and its all a crab bucket of opportunism? there is no way to know because there is no way to ask, whoever she is. what i can say is that songs, articles, and all types of media have used that quote. and each person that used it and passed it off as their own original work have possibly profited from it. of course, it's entirely possible that Wandavsion's usage of that one perserving-grief-quote is entirely part of the creative process, where multiple people can have the same idea at once and not steal from eachother. reposting without credit, plagiarism, and overall confusion about who made what is an occupational hazard to the creative field and can be ruled off as such, same with two people coincidentally thinking the same string of words at once and not intentionally stealing from the other, right? it's an innocent and maybe mildly embarrassing and confusing thing at best and a huge loss at worst. but the thing about disney, owner of marvel and wandavision, is that they partake in unethical business practices, such as having a track record of stealing from places, in particular people, that are far less popular than they are. the writer of the show, Jac Schaeffer, has actually gone on record and described the creative process for that particular quote, specifically framed through a feminist lens. if that is true, that means skill and thought between multiple people went in to creating that quote, and it wasn't just someone or a some company stealing something. it appears that they are the ones to have popularized it. but in the back of my mind, i cant help but feel a bit cheated. and im still not convinced that they're the first one to say it. assuming the best and that the jac schaeffer and/or her creative team isnt pathologically lying, then it's true that she and her editor luara monti didnt steal that quote. but that still doesnt mean they created it, it's still predated by that comic. so who is the true creator? it's true that there is a popular creator, but that there isn't one single creator. maybe it's constantly being created, and there is no singular creator. created by multiple people by accident, over and over, unintentionally interlinked through a deep, shared feeling. maybe it's a meta-poetic commentary on human connection. or maybe disney did something bad again. there are popular and meaningful quotes that affect parts of the population and culture at large, and for them to have such preventably obscure origins is a huge loss. what other amazing quotes have the authors come up with before dying to obscurity?

but i fully believe it did. four years after leaving that space my want was still for glip to heal, stop hurting people, and become a better person. i was still pretty scared of them, but i had pretty much moved on by the beginning of this year. there was nothing i could do about it, and sharing my experiences would just put a target on my back anyway, so as a lot of huge life changes were on the horizon for me i felt prepared to let go.

but i cant let this go. after years of tending the wounds that community inflicted on my this was a knife directly into my heart.

remember that political thing that happened in november 2016? i was in the flora irc by that time, and everyone was very rattled by it. glip announced that, to put some good into the world, theyd do a commission for anyone who donated x amount to y charity (i dont remember the specifics). id been a fan of glip's for years at that point, and this was an opportunity to finally have something id wanted for a long time.

they truly did a wonderful job with it. it looked so much like him. i dont have a lot of photos of him, he lived in the pre-smartphone era, so this was a precious thing to me. i had it printed, i got a frame, i hung it on my wall. it meant everything to me.

after all of the stuff that happened to me and leaving flora, it became tainted. now instead of reminding me of something i loved dearly it reminded me of something that hurt me badly. i couldnt get rid of it though. i took it off the wall, out of the frame, and slotted it onto a shelf where i could still see it, if i wanted to. it felt really awful, but i knew i loved that cat more than i could ever fear glip, so maybe someday i could look at it again without being reminded of them. maybe someday that portrait could go back up on my wall as an expression of love for my first best friend.

then i was told about what they had supposedly done to Pearl. and when i tell you i fucking bluescreened when i heard that... it fucking shattered me. it was a cold knife in my heart. the dog stuff was horrid of course but, something about this just broke something in me.

i had to walk away from my phone. i had to go find one of my cats and just. i just sat on the floor and pet her as she lay on the futon and purred and trusted me utterly, like im sure Pearl did for you, glip. she knows i love her, that i provide for her, that i would never bring harm to her. i just sat with her and cried.

im crying now, writing this. my hands are shaking.

my husband came to check on me, i told him what i was told and he was disgusted, the correct response. he was angry. he was angry. and for the first time in years, i wasnt scared of glip anymore.

WE are the ones who know right from wrong and act for them accordingly. WE keep them fed. WE keep them safe. WE make that final decision that they cant make when their suffering is to much to bear anymore. they trust us to do the things for them they can never understand.

we dont use them for our own sexual gratification. we dont do this because they dont understand that theyre being used, they have no context for how they are being treated, they dont know it shouldnt be happening.

they are helpless.

they are voiceless.

they are the perfect victim.
